Yisrael Niglet La’ayin is a community project dedicated to documenting, preserving, and rescuing photographs of the country, its residents, and its history. Its goal is to strengthen the story of Israeli heritage across generations by involving the public as both documenters and subjects in this visual preservation effort using personal photo albums.
Yad Yitzhak Ben-Zvi approached us to build a website with a special system for documenting photos, documents, and stories in a simple, user-friendly, and intuitive way for people from diverse backgrounds.
The challenge was to create a smart and flexible search engine that could handle a huge amount of content while catering to varied audiences. To achieve this, we conducted in-depth research on search engines from Israel and around the world. We succeeded in developing an advanced search engine with effective filtering, designed for researchers and professionals, but also accessible for seniors looking for photos of their relatives.
The site includes an online store with a payment system where users can purchase photos, albums, and personalized products like mugs featuring images from the archive. Since most of the content is black-and-white photos, we chose a bright and lively graphic style and created a unique icon system that sets the site apart from other databases.
The website was developed using WordPress technology, is bilingual, responsive, and meets AA accessibility standards.
